Teen's Dream

My name is Sara. My dream is to give young people all over the world the power to break cycles of poverty due to the lack of education; so that everyone has access to opportunities and wins.

Addressing SDGoals# 1 No Poverty and #4 Quality Education.

Poverty is one of the most common causes of educational exclusion, since the lack of money makes it more difficult to buy school supplies (notebooks, books, pencils) or pay for school transportation. It forces children to work to support the family instead of attending school. Such a situation creates a cycle of intergenerational poverty, where the lack of education perpetuates the precarious economic situation. For example in the country of Honduras, their 2022 Educational Progress report estimates; that “758 thousand minors were left behind in the educational system”. Poverty is located at the threshold of 6.85 dollars per capita per day. Out of every 10 students who enter first grade, only three complete secondary school.

My idea centers on how universities (international or local) can help low-income people, anywhere in the world, including rural areas, such as those in Honduras.

To overcome these issues: my program EVERYBODY WINS  organizes internships for final year university students to visit schools or neighborhoods so that they can share their college campus resources and experiences.

  1. This Unique exchange program connects college students in metropolitan areas and High School students in rural areas.
  2. University students complete their studies through traveling and tutoring in poor areas. They gain both school credit and professional experience.
  3. University tutors can offer basic classes, such as: reading, writing and mathematics, and create access to the university application processes, college admissions and campus visits.

With this program _EVERYONE WINS__ everyone has the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, in an equal way, opening doors when we take the time to study, we can overcome this global problem.
