Teen's Dream

My name is Success. I am from THE United states. My vision is to help countries gain access to sanitation which aligns with SDG Goal  #6 and #7; which will greatly improve many people’s lives. I would like to partner up with unicef to create a DIY tool kit so people facing water crisis can make their own water filtration systems which run on solar energy.

In America or in any first world nation we live pretty comfortable lives. Unlike other parts of the world, we don’t need to worry about famines, droughts or running out of power; we should be thankful. In the United States 97% of people have clean water. But in countries like South Sudan 59% of the people— 6.3 million people to be exact—don’t have access to drinking water. Climate change has increased precipitation, leading to heavy rains and floods; accelerating water contamination. During the rainy season, chemicals and toxins from the surrounding environment seep into boreholes and other water sources, making them unsafe. The solution lies in utilizing South Sudan’s existing resources and improving water management to address the contamination.

For residents facing these problems, I will provide the Ark Purifier, a DIY tool kit, which cleans their water.

This kit comes with a water bottle containing a regular purification filter that cleans creek water even if it’s dark and murky. There is an additional water purifier that runs efficiently on solar power. Lastly the kit will include DIY instructions to make a water filter out of natural or found materials such as rocks, sand, charcoal, gravel and cloth. With this kit  people in south sudan or any parts of the world can have access to the tools to clean their own water. The good thing is Unicef already has a presence in South Sudan, supplying schools and communities with solar powered water filters.

My partnership with Unicef will further help the people who are in a similar crisis to Sudan.
