Teen's Dream

My vision for a clean energy future is closely tied to Sustainable Development Goal #7, which is all about ensuring affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for everyone. I’m particularly focused on the burning of fuel to create electricity, which is one of the main contributors to climate change. I’ve also noticed that global funding for clean energy has been steadily declining, from $28.4 billion to $10.8 billion since 2017. This drop in investment highlights just how critical it is to find more accessible and affordable clean energy solutions.

To address this, I came up with an idea that combines two innovative technologies. The first is the one-way mirror effect, which is already used in skyscraper windows. The film on these windows reflects sunlight from the outside while still allowing people inside to see out clearly. The second technology is the new, paper-thin solar panels developed by engineers at MIT. These panels are incredibly lightweight, flexible, and efficient—100 times lighter than traditional solar panels, and they generate 18 times more power per kilogram.

By printing these solar panels onto the one-way mirror film, I believe we can create an affordable and seamless way to harness solar energy. The best part is that the solar panels can be applied to many different materials and fabrics, and the film itself would provide privacy without compromising on energy efficiency. This technology could help make clean energy more accessible to everyone, overcoming the high costs and long payback periods of traditional solar panels.

Ultimately, by tapping into the power of the sun in a way that’s both innovative and sustainable, I believe we can build a world where technology and the environment thrive together.
