2026 Teens Dream - "Mirai" - Clean Energy
My dream is a world where access to clean and reliable energy is not a privilege, but a basic right.
Today, over a billion people still live without affordable electricity. In refugee camps, disaster zones, and remote communities, this challenge becomes even more severe as climate change increases extreme heat, flooding, and system failures. This directly connects to UN Sustainable Development Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy. I like to think of it as “Clean and Affordable Energy”, because when energy is generated using natural and sustainable resources, affordability naturally follows.
Beyond energy access, my broader dream is to create solutions for problems that are worsened by climate change, especially in situations where traditional technologies fail. I am inspired by history and by how past civilizations worked in harmony with natural systems such as water, wind, and locally available materials, rather than relying on harmful extraction. Learning from history helps me rethink modern challenges in more sustainable and resilient ways.
This mindset led me to develop Mirai, a moisture-powered nanogenerator that uses nanomaterials and water to generate electricity without traditional batteries. Mirai is designed to be affordable, environmentally safe, and effective in extreme and remote environments. Currently in the prototype stage, Mirai powers real sensors such as air-quality monitors, heart-rate sensors, and soil-temperature sensors. With further advancements, it has the potential to power a wide range of devices using only water and specially treated graphene oxide on a fiberglass substrate.
Ultimately, my dream goes beyond a single invention. I want to continue building technologies that combine science, history, and sustainability to help communities adapt to a changing climate while reducing environmental harm.
