Teen's Dream

My dream is to end plastic pollution in America by educating people to recycle more and use less plastic.

By 2050 there will be more plastic in the Ocean than fish. Studies have shown that 35 billion plastic water bottles are thrown away every year, and 8 million chunks of plastic goes into the ocean every single day. 100,000 marine mammals and 1 million seabirds have died from plastic pollution every year. Creatures like sea turtles, whales, seals, and seabirds mistake these plastics for food and consume them. They can later die, and it’s because of us. Yes you and I, me and we, it is all because of us.

Because we need to care about our planet Earth. We hear the news of how these poor animals are dying because of our poor treatment of our Earth and it seems like we don’t care?

We have to be the change that we want to see in this world. First, it starts with me and you, carry your own reusable water bottles and start becoming aware of the amount of plastic you use everyday. There is enough plastic thrown away each year to circle the Earth four times in a row.

We have to put in the work! For example, 1. By bringing a reusable bag with us every time we go shopping we are supporting the plastic bags banned. 2. Lets carry our own reusable water bottles. 3.  Participate in beach clean ups. 4. Anywhere you see plastic waste, pick it up and recycle it properly. This will lead us to using less plastic.

If we don’t do this then our grandkids and their grandkids will not be able to know what a fish is or know what a sea creature looks like or even experience a day in an aquarium or what it feels like to go in the sea and see a whale or a dolphin or experience the beauty of our oceans.

Every piece of plastic that is recycled equals an animal’s life that continues to thrive.
