My idea connects to many aspects including the climate and life on land goals, but I believe it connects the most to the sustainable cities goal. Us as a society have known about the heat island effect for many years now, and though many cities have made good efforts to plant trees in their cities and build eco-friendly infrastructure, the problem still puts many people in danger, for example the heat dome code reds in Baltimore that by now have become a summerly occurrence. I have personal experiences in cities like Los Angeles and Chicago where in the summer it feels unbearable to walk near the streets or be outside at all, and even during the summer in my own suburban hometown I have to avoid being near the roads unless I’m inside a car. Though many cities have already made changes, and many cities have incorporated what my video is about: painting the streets white to reflect instead of absorb heat, there is still a lot of work to be done and the heat island problem will only get worse as climate change progresses.
